How many orders do I need per day?
Most riders set a goal like "₹1,000 a day". The real question is how many orders, and how many hours, that takes after fuel and commission. Here is a simple way to plan it, and why taking fewer, better orders can mean the same money in fewer hours.
The formula
Orders needed = Daily net target ÷ Average net per order
Hours needed = Orders needed × Minutes per order (including waiting) ÷ 60
Net per order is what you keep after fuel or charging and the app's commission. Work it out with the earnings calculator.
Example: ₹1,000 a day
| Taking every order | Skipping LEAVE orders | |
|---|---|---|
| Average net per order | ₹40 | ₹50 |
| Orders for ₹1,000 | 25 | 20 |
| Minutes per order (with waiting) | 25 | 25 |
| Hours on the road | about 10.4 | about 8.3 |
Raising your average net per order by ₹10, by skipping orders that pay too little for the distance or time, saves about 2 hours a day for the same ₹1,000. Over 26 working days that's roughly 54 hours a month.
From a monthly goal to a daily one
- Monthly net goal ÷ working days = daily target. For ₹25,000 over 26 days, that's about ₹960 a day.
- Daily target ÷ hours you can work = your minimum ₹ per hour. ₹960 in 9 hours needs about ₹107 per hour, including waiting time.
- Use that ₹/hour, and a ₹/km minimum, to decide which orders to take. See Is this order worth it?
Tips that move the numbers
- Know your cost per km: a cheaper running cost raises the net on every order. Compare in petrol vs CNG vs EV.
- Work more than one app: when two apps send orders, pick the one with the better net.
- Watch your average, not single orders: a few bad orders a day pull your average down more than you think.
