Petrol vs CNG vs EV: your real cost per km
Your running cost per km decides how much of every order you keep. Here is how to work it out for any vehicle in a minute, and how the common options compare.
The formulas
For an EV, charger kW × charging hours is the electricity units (kWh) a full charge takes from the wall, charging losses included. The kW rating is printed on your charger.
Comparison (example prices)
| Vehicle | How | Per km | 100 km/day, 26 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bike · petrol | ₹95/l ÷ 45 km/l | ₹2.11 | ₹5,490 |
| Scooter · petrol | ₹95/l ÷ 40 km/l | ₹2.38 | ₹6,180 |
| Electric scooter · home charging | 0.75 kW × 5 h × ₹8 ÷ 100 km | ₹0.30 | ₹780 |
| Electric scooter · fast charger | 3.75 units × ₹20 ÷ 100 km | ₹0.75 | ₹1,950 |

Example prices: petrol ₹95/litre, diesel ₹88/litre, CNG ₹80/kg, home electricity ₹8/unit, fast charger ₹20/unit. Your city's prices and your vehicle's mileage will differ, so use your own numbers.
What it means for one order
On a 6 km order, a petrol bike spends about ₹13 on fuel, an electric scooter charged at home about ₹2. On a ₹50 order that's the difference between keeping ₹37 and keeping ₹48.
Measure your real mileage
- Fill the tank to full and note the odometer.
- Ride normally for a few days.
- Fill to full again. Mileage = km ridden ÷ litres added.
Delivery riding (stop-start traffic, carrying load) usually gives less mileage than the company figure, so measure it yourself.
